EVENTS

The Oscar E. Monnig Meteorite Gallery will be hosting a Total Lunar Eclipse Watch Party on Wednesday evening, October 27, 2004 from 7:00 pm to midnight. The event is free and is open to the public. Come watch Earth's shadow creep across the face of the moon. This will be the last total lunar eclipse visible anywhere in the world until 2007.
Evening activities will begin with a speaker series from 7:00 pm to 8:10 pm in Lecture Hall 1 of the Sid W. Richardson Physical Sciences Building. Dr. Arthur Ehlmann, curator of the Monnig Meteorite Gallery and Emeritus Professor of Geology at TCU, will give a talk on The Geology of the Moon and Lunar Meteorites. Dr. Doug Ingram, TCU instructor of Physics and Astronomy, will lecture on Formation Theories of the Moon. Dr. Pamela Marcum, TCU professor of Physics and Astronomy, will speak on Lunar Eclipse Basics.
Beginning at 8:15 pm, there will be telescope viewing of the lunar eclipse provided by TCU's Department of Physics and Astronomy. Telescope viewing will take place in the plaza area between TCU's library and the Sid W. Richardson Physical Sciences Building.
In addition, there will be tours of the Monnig Meteorite Gallery including a viewing of a lunar meteorite (one of less than 3 dozen in the world). The Monnig Meteorite Gallery is located in Room 240 of the Sid W. Richardson Physical Sciences Building.
